British Columbia is experiencing the worst wildfire season in its history, with over 1,000 fires, scorching more than 900,000 hectares of land. Many residents are still wondering how the final chapter plays out, as they wait for evacuation orders and alerts to be lifted from their communities. As of last week the provincial state of emergency had been extended through September 1, 2017. This is the third extension this summer due to wildfires.

Hi-Pro Feeds, through matching employee donations and potential fund matching from government, will contribute over $22,000 to the Canadian Red Cross British Columbia Fires Appeal. “As we watched the wildfire season continue to intensify in B.C. our first thought was, how can we help?” said Paul Goerzen, Regional Manager BC. “We had employees asking how best to collectively support those in need, and we thought as an organization the best way to help would be through donations to the Canadian Red Cross British Columbia Fires Appeal.”

Multiple news outlets have reported that the federal government will be making a contribution that matches the amount spent by the Canadian Red Cross on direct support for registered fire evacuees.

“We are grateful that we are able to make this contribution knowing that our donation will directly support those in need,” said Daren Kennett, Founder of Hi-Pro Feeds. “We hope that these funds can help reduce stress and anxiety for those experiencing a lot of uncertainty at the moment. Our hearts go out to those affected, and we thank all the organizations and volunteers for their commitment to helping fellow Canadians.”
